Bradenton Christian School has chosen Heisman Trophy winner and University of Florida alum Danny Wuerffel as the keynote speaker for its annual Fundraising Gala.  This year’s event, appropriately titled Heart’s Desire, will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 7:00pm in Wichers Auditorium on the ever growing BCS Campus.  Tickets and sponsorships are still available.

As one of the primary fundraising events for Bradenton Christian School, the annual event draws hundreds of sponsors, families, alumni, and community members for a formal affair.  The funds raised support the excellent educational opportunities Bradenton Christian School is privileged to provide to over 700 students.

A private reception, hosted by Danny Wuerffel, will be held for top sponsors including:  McClure Family Farms, West Bay Landscape, Falkner Farms, Rehfeldt Group, and Tutschulte/Polis/Jerome Group of Merrill Lynch, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.  The main event follows with Bradenton Christian School’s Praise Band providing musical entertainment.  The Master of Ceremonies is Broadcast Journalist and Writer for the Atlanta Constitution Journal, Trevor Sikkema, who is also a Gator Grad and BCS Alum.  Danny Wuerffel’s inspiring keynote address will follow an elegant dinner, catered by renowned Chef Doug Hitching’s Fun-With-Food-Catering Company.

Danny Wuerffel is one of the most celebrated college football players in history and in 2013 his mark was made permanent with his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.  However, his work as the Executive Director of Desire Street Ministries is perhaps his most cherished accomplishments.

While playing quarterback at the University of Florida, Danny Wuerffel powered the Gators to four consecutive SEC Championships (1993-1996) and their first National Football Title in 1996.  Along the way, Danny won the 1996 Heisman Trophy and nearly every major college football award, including the William V Campbell Award as well as the Maxwell, Walter Camp, O’Brien, and Unitas Trophies.  He set 17 NCAA and Gator records; and he graduated with highest honors.  Drafted by the New Orleans Saints, Danny also played for the Packers, Bears, and Redskins before retiring in 2002 and returning to New Orleans to join Desire Street Ministries.

In New Orleans’ Ninth Ward, Danny’s on-field talents were exchanged for time in-the-streets with a mission to revitalize one of America’s most impoverished neighborhoods through spiritual and community development.  Desire Street Ministries is now headquartered in Atlanta and impacts hundreds of children and families living in other southern inner cities.  Danny was born in Pensacola, Florida and has lived all over the country including three years in Spain.  He now calls Atlanta home and lives there with his wife and three children.
