Hearing Awareness Foundation and Mass Audiology are Creating Awareness about Hearing Loss to the Boston Area
Hearing Awareness Foundation and Mass Audiology are bringing educational seminars to the Boston area, in an effort to educate the public about the detrimental effects of hearing loss. Hearing loss affects much more than just the sounds around you.
Orem, Utah, October 28, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Hearing Awareness Foundation (HAF), is pleased to announce a series of four seminars throughout the Boston area on November 12th and 13th. These seminars, which come with a complimentary meal, will focus on creating awareness concerning the third most prevalent chronic health problem facing Americans today: Hearing loss. Approximately, forty-eight million Americans have some degree of hearing loss, yet only one in five of them do anything about it.
According to a recent study from Johns Hopkins Medicine, “the brain [normally] becomes smaller with age, [however] the shrinkage seems to be fast-tracked in older adults with hearing loss.” Additionally, Johns Hopkins has linked hearing loss to increased risks for heart disease, diabetes, depression and dementia, as well as various psychological consequences associated with social withdrawal and isolation. It is due to the damaging nature of these effects that Hearing Awareness Foundation, a non-profit, was created; as an attempt to educate and inform the public of the steps available to help prevent, treat and live with hearing loss.
People have generally thought that hearing loss was something you lived with until you 'finally needed' a hearing aid, however, research has shown us that leaving hearing loss untreated makes things exponentially worse. People need to stop waiting the average 10 years before they finally seek treatment for what is one of the easiest corrected heath issues facing Americans today. Hearing loss is a critical component of preventative health care measures, however, most insurance policies offer little to no help covering the costs of hearing aids. This instills the idea that hearing aids are a luxury, leading people to procrastinate the necessary treatment while unintentionally decreasing their overall quality of life. Furthermore hearing aids can cost as much as $7000.00 for a pair, however, in many instances a less expensive alternative may work just as well, if not better. For low-income individuals and military personnel, there are numerous state and federal programs designed to help them obtain a hearing aid.
Nobody should feel like they have to live a substandard life due to hearing problems. There are tools and programs available throughout the Boston area that can help diagnose and treat hearing loss for everyone. That is what these seminars are all about.
Additionally, these seminars which offer a free lunch or dinner, are designed to be fun and educational, giving the attendees the information they need to get the ball rolling down the path to better hearing. Furthermore, Hearing Awareness Foundation has teamed up with various hearing health providers throughout the Boston area to offer free diagnostic hearing exams to all those who attend and their loved ones.
