GoFundMe Account Created for Homeless Man Assaulted by McDonald's Employee in Drive-Thru in Detroit
Oak Forest, Illinois, November 11, 2015 (Newswire.com) - The video is difficult to watch: a homeless man is lured over to a McDonald's Drive-Thru window in Detroit, by the promise of food; to add insult to injury, not only does the man not receive any food, but he gets a cup of water thrown at him by a McDonald's employee. "I was virtually speechless. How cruel of a human being can you possibly be?" asks Calabrese. Feeling only little vindication after learning of the employee's termination, Calabrese knew more had to be done.
She immediately took to the internet and established a GoFundMe account, http://www.gofundme.com/forwilly, to raise $10,000 for the homeless man. "Homelessness is a tricky dilemma, kind of like the proverbial Chicken and the Egg: you want to immediately find the homeless employment, but they need a place to sleep, eat, bathe and do laundry...which is exactly what these funds are designed to address, short-term."
"...we will be able to make something wonderful come from this deplorable incident."
Christine Ciana Calabrese, Good Samaritan
Calabrese is currently working with a few local pastors around the Chicagoland area to establish different churches and organizations in Detroit to assist Willy directly after their financial goal is met; "A support system will be of critical importance for this man" Calabrese states. She goes on to add, "I'm confident that despite the malice I witnessed on that video, there is more benevolence in the world, and we will be able to make something wonderful come from this deplorable incident."
