Global Tour Shares Lessons from the Great Depression

"Many lessons can be learned from the effects of the Great Depression"

"Many lessons can be learned from the effects of the Great Depression" said author Joszann St. John as she embarked on a virtual book tour from 11-29 November 2013, in celebration of her latest historical fiction novel Sonnets in Waking Moments.

Joszann, a prolific writer and blogger describes her latest work as her most demanding assignment, thus far. She says: "Going in, I had no knowledge of the Great Depression era. At times, I wanted to shelve the whole project, but I'm glad I persevered, and today it is truly rewarding for me to be able to share this work with a global audience."

Set in Canada and New York City, Sonnets in Waking Moments recounts the challenges of living and loving during the Great Depression. The onset of the Great Depression beginning in 1929 and the subsequent World War Two was a period fraught by turmoil and uncertainty.

It is against this backdrop of instability and crisis that the saga of Sonnets in Waking Moments unfolds, capturing the essence of social relationships and the culture that would eventually shape the years following the preceding decade. From Toronto's Junction neighborhood to a convent in New York City, the characters are larger than life. Their individual stories create many memorable and inspiring moments.

According to St. John, "Many of the nuggets I gained, as I reviewed the period are portrayed through the lives of Sonnets' characters. For example, Anna Agnelli, one of the heroines, is a figure of strength and endurance."

She noted that "Sometimes we tend to disassociate ourselves from the past. Trying to keep history, where we think it belongs, but time has shown that we sometimes repeat, what we forget."

Through the virtual book tour Joszann will reach out to new audiences across fifteen blogs, in various countries, sharing the novel and looking at what lessons from the Great Depression era could well serve humanity in the 21st century.

Other features of the tour include a Giveaway of three autographed copies of the book on the author networking site Goodreads.com now owned by Amazon, The Giveaway will run for the duration of the tour and Goodreads will select three winners at the end of the period. Tour followers can also sign up at Joszann's website to receive a complimentary copy of her poetry collection And She Dances, which is dedicated to women of strength.
