Gibraltar Provides Data Security and Continuity to Corporations and Governments

Gibraltar protects major corporations, financial and government institutions against the risk of information technology interruption, system failure or data loss with the new Data Continuity Centre by Vault Technology Services Ltd.

The Rock of Gibraltar, a pivotal location and strategic stronghold throughout history, houses a former government underground complex. During WWII, General Dwight D. Eisenhower directed the North African Campaign from within 'the Rock'. Until recent history, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) housed its headquarters for the western Mediterranean in the same facility.

Vault Technology Services re-designed the military fortress into a Data Continuity Centre offering the highest standards of security, continuity and anonymity in data storage facilities worldwide.

"Businesses and organizations that use the centre can be safe in the knowledge that their sensitive business information and records are held in a uniquely discreet, self contained data vault of world class standards and industrial strength," said Charles Yeo, chairman and co-founder, Vault Technology Services. "With data being transferred to and from the business networks via secure links, the company's vital records are safeguarded and made available so businesses can continue real-time data operations seamlessly and with confidence."

Hued from solid rock and surrounded by at least 450 feet of solid limestone, the centre is able to withstand a direct aerial blast. Offering 3,000 square meters containing 80 rooms of technical space, the facility houses its three independent power sources and pumps its own filtered air. With the ability to generate its own power for 30 days, the location forms an inherent physically secure unit supplemented by 24 hour managed security, to include a concentric physical security package with biometric entry controls.

"The benefit of having such a facility is not only reliable storage, but it optimizes productivity, efficiency, and consistency of service for businesses based throughout the world while maintaining secure data privacy," explained Anne Lundin, project coordinator and administrator, Vault Technology Services. "It also allows businesses the ability to meet legislative requirements for the protection of sensitive data."

Partnering with leading legal, accounting and financial advisers to maintain a collaborative relationship with regulators and governments, VTS helps customers understand the technology ramifications of international and jurisdictional regulatory and compliance directives.

International organizations seeking political and financial advantaged locations for data storage and transactions find Gibraltar also offers tax benefits and future growth. Cables from the Europe India Gateway are scheduled for operation with the Gibtelecom Head Office by 2010.

Built to each client's specifications and installed by in-house certified engineers, each space has full environmental monitoring by either InterSeptor® environmental monitoring or a centralized Building Management System. The system is vendor neutral as per the control systems now being used by London Heathrow Airport.

Using the latest technologies and planning tools, all services are a minimum N+1 redundancy which ensures the failure of any one component will not impact the systems' integrity and should continue to function without service interruption.

The Vault complies to ISO 27001, an Information Security Management program which brings information security under explicit management control and can therefore be formally audited and certified compliant with the standard.

All client rooms and services are completely independent. Actions of one have no effect upon another clients' operation. The continual process of review and assessment verify the system is working as designed; determines where improvements can be made; corrects or prevents further problems once identified.
