Gateway Concepts Launches Team-Building Initiative

The Gateway Concepts group has recently initiated a company-wide hiring push. Ali, the firm's director of operations, indicated that this is intended to drive further success for the company.

​Management at the experiential marketing firm has always emphasized having a close group of sales and marketing professionals. Ali stated that she believes a team with strong relationships can accomplish almost anything. As such, she has made it a point to invest significant time and effort into team-building activities.

“Our team is made up of a lot of really talented people,” she said. “However, the whole is definitely greater than the sum of all parts. We have done so much in our company’s history because of this diverse group coming together to create the most innovative campaigns. Ali added that another benefit of a close team is that they are able to share learning. This is a central tenet of Gateway Concepts’ approach to training. When associates learn together, they better understand each other. This in turn compounds the overall collaborative culture of the firm.

For example, she tries to set team members to working on tasks together in small groups. These teams typically consist of less than eight people to ensure everyone’s voices are heard.

“I try to keep people working in shifting groups,” Ali explained. “I want everyone to have a chance to work together but in small teams so they all have chances to participate. Larger initiatives often end up with only a few people doing the majority of the work. To support these group efforts, I make sure all of our processes are designed to facilitate teamwork.”

She indicated that team members are involved in developing their own work practices. This helps guarantee buy-in while also creating procedures that are closely tied to the actual work being done. Ali then ensures that her associates have the right tools to handle their work collaboratively.

“We make sure our people have the right tools for the job,” she stated. “People generally like working together – the key is making it easy for them to do. Once we set up a system of processes and tools that actually make collaboration easy and natural, the rest of our team-building goals just fell into place naturally.”
