Freedom Concepts Attends Rewarding Conference

Freedom Concepts' team recently returned from a quarterly national conference where they acquired industry knowledge from key experts. This is one of many educational trips the interactive marketing firm will take in 2015.

Adam, the company’s director of operations, discussed the virtues of these travel opportunities. “The quarterly national conference is always a venue for gaining significant pointers and tips that we can use to better serve our customers,” he said. “This conference hosts a number of industry experts, as well as seminars and workshops that allow attendees to delve deep into various issues and even do some brainstorming.”

The national conference is just one of several travel opportunities on which his team will embark this year. “We frequently send team members to leadership meetings, conferences, and cross-training events,” Adam stated. “Each of these trips provides them with greater knowledge on how to develop customized campaigns that build brands effectively.”

"A far better approach, at least that I've found, is to focus on connecting with one or two individuals with whom you're likely to maintain contact long after the event is over,"

Adam, Chief Executive Officer

“As our team expands and we bring on new associates – which we’ll be doing very soon – these educational and networking opportunities become more important,” added Adam. “We have a process in place after team members return from the events, which allows them to share what they learned, and for all of us to discuss how we can implement these concepts at Freedom Concepts.”

Freedom Concepts' Managers Offer Networking Tips

Conferences and other events can be excellent venues for networking, according to Adam. “You have to be strategic about it,” he indicated. “Networking is more than collecting as many business cards as you can and calling them contacts. Three-quarters of the time, those cards end up in the recycle bin.”

“A far better approach, at least that I’ve found, is to focus on connecting with one or two individuals with whom you’re likely to maintain contact long after the event is over,” explained Adam. “The best way to do this is not to walk up to someone and give him or her a sales pitch. It’s to introduce yourself and find common ground. I always have a few ice breaker questions, neutral topics over which everyone can get enthusiastic, like travel or food. Once you establish where your mutual interests lie, your conversation will just flow.”

Adam pointed out that this isn’t to say business discussions are forbidden. “Of course you want to have your elevator pitch ready,” he concluded. “When it’s time, you’ll know when to introduce this aspect into the conversation. The secret is to be patient and let the discussion flow naturally to this topic. This is how you build your connections. Think quality over quantity if you want the best results.”
