Empowering success stories of leading women in the Tequila, Mezcal, Sotol and Bacanora spirits industries

'From Babes to Boss Ladies'

Author and tequila journalist M.A. “Mike” Morales unveils the groundbreaking book From Babes to Boss Ladies. In this collection of interviews, diverse women who own, lead, create or contribute to the understanding and acceptance of Tequila, Mezcal, Sotol and Bacanora share their success stories on how to thrive in the macho world of Mexican spirits.

Among the Boss Ladies are luminaries like Mary Clemente of Jurado Tequila. Clemente was inspired to create Jurado as the black swan of tequilas and is so exclusive that a bottle can only be purchased at duty-free stores throughout Asia.

From Babes to Boss Ladies also features Iliana Partida of crowd favorite Tres Agaves Tequila. Named Master Distiller of Tres Agaves’ newly minted state-of-art tequila factory, Partida is one of the youngest women to date to be elevated to that position.

Boss Ladies Cary Clahan and Sidney Ranin-Smith are turning the ready-to-serve cocktail category on its head. Co-founders of Laughing Glass Cocktails, Clahan and Ranin-Smith have developed a sought-after trio of all-natural margaritas. When the time came to source their tequila, however, that's when things got interesting for these mompreneurs.

Veteran tequila Boss Lady Melly Barajas Cárdenas not only owns and runs a female-staffed distillery but has the distinction of being one of the few Master Distillers of either gender with four award-winning tequila labels imported into the U.S. at the same time with TC Craft, Vikera, La Gritona and Sino.

From Babes to Boss Ladies also features consultant to major tequila producers Ana Maria Romero Mena, responsible for developing Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy’s entry into the tequila category - Volcan de mi Tierra, as well as Elle France, who recently teamed up with country legend Tanya Tucker on Cosa Salvaje tequila.

In addition, From Babes to Boss Ladies interviews Karla Amtmann who successfully spearheaded crowdfunding of her own Santo Diablo Mezcal; soldadera of sotol Jaclyn Jacquez, president of the venerated fifth-generation Don Cuco Sotol family business; and representing the burgeoning bacanora segment is Adriana Torres of upstart brand Pascola Bacanora.

These are just a few of the female frontrunners leading the charge for change in their respective agave spirits sectors.
