Friends of Wintergreen Receives $50,000 Challenge Grant

Friends of Wintergreen, Inc., is pleased to announce that an anonymous donor is providing a $50,000 challenge grant to help the not-for-profit mobilize funds for its campaign to ensure a "responsible" Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

Friends of Wintergreen, Inc. is pleased to announce that an anonymous donor is providing a $50,000 challenge grant to help the not-for-profit mobilize funds for its campaign to ensure a “responsible” Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP).   The ACP, a 564-mile, 42inch compressed natural gas pipeline, would be one of the largest in America if approved by the federal regulator.  A subsidiary of Dominion Resources, Inc., the ACP would cause significant economic, safety and environmental disruption to the Wintergreen area, lately called “Virginia’s Napa Valley”.  It still requires approval from the national pipeline regulator, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Challenge Grant is provided by a foundation that has been a long-time supporter of projects that enhance the local community and Virginia’s unique agro-tourism region.

We are delighted to receive the generous support and especially appreciate the trust put in us to attain this important goal for the region. The Challenge Grant will enable contributors to automatically and instantly magnify the impact of their donations on these critical initiatives, said Jonathan Ansell, Chairman of Friends of Wintergreen, Inc.

Every dollar donated to Friends of Wintergreen will be supplemented by a 50% match from the Challenge Grant.  Funds received from the Challenge Grant will be used to support the work of legal, environmental and geotechnical experts that Friends of Wintergreen has hired to find a more responsible pipeline location, one that protects the sensitive and important Blue Ridge Mountain region.
