Fresh Perspective in LD 14

Ian Hartfield files for 2010 Nebraska Legislative Race for position currently held by Tim Gay.

Ian Hartfield, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, in Omaha, has announced his candidacy for the Nebraska Legislature's 14th District. State Senator Tim Gay recently announced that he would not run for re-election in LD 14. Democrat, Nancy Thompson, previously held the seat.

Hartfield was raised in Omaha and Papillion, Nebraska. In High School, Ian volunteered weekly at Immanuel Hospital and worked 20 hours a week to help support his family. While a student at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Ian served on the Student Senate and as an officer for his fraternity, Phi Kappa Tau. Ian graduated from NWU with a degree in Political Science and History.

Hartfield is currently pursuing a master's degree in history at University of Nebraska-Omaha, and is a member of the National History Honorary Society, Phi Alpha theta. Ian is an active volunteer for the Siena Frances House, Ronald Mc Donald House, and other local charities.

"Area residents have expressed that they would like to have fresh leadership with a long term perspective on the challenges facing Nebraska," states Hartfield. "I believe I have the skills and motivation needed to help create effective change in the legislature."

Ian and his wife Meeghan have one daughter, Alexa, and live in La Vista, Nebraska. They are members of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church. Meegan teaches third grade in the Omaha Public Schools system.
