Foodie Registry (http://www.FoodieRegistry.com), an innovative website where wedding couples can create a gift registry for restaurant gift certificates, launched its service in New York City on March 28th, 2011. Originally started in Chicago in 2010 and having launched service in the San Francisco Bay Area earlier this month, the launch marks Foodie Registry's second step outside of its home market.

Foodie Registry serves wedding couples in New York, San Francisco and Chicago looking for an alternative to traditional wedding registries. In the era of live-in romances and later-in-life marriages, many modern wedding couples already have much of the material items commonly given as wedding gifts by the time they're ready to walk down the aisle. Enter Foodie Registry, the wedding registry that allows couples to register for memorable experiences and great food instead.

"We're excited to be able to bring our unique concept to New York wedding couples. Nowhere else in the country is there such an array of phenomenal restaurants for post-wedding date nights, and nowhere else do newlywed couples have less space for kitchen gadgets or bed sheets," says Foodie Registry co-founder Ben Reid. "We're honored to launch New York with a great list of initial restaurant partners like the James Beard Foundation (for their Beard House event dinners), Michelin starred PUBLIC, and the historic '21' Club, to name just a few."

Reid and his wife Jennifer created the company after eschewing the traditional registry at their own wedding in 2008 and creating a "restaurant registry" instead. The registry was a huge hit with guests, and Foodie Registry was born.

Foodie Registry is free and functions just like a normal registry, where the gifts are restaurant gift certificates or, as the company likes to say, date nights! Gift purchasers can view their friends' registry and purchase a gift certificate for them right from the site, with zero fees to either registrants or purchasers, a key distinction from other popular alternative registries like "Honeymoon" or "Cash" registries.

Foodie Registry's initial New York restaurant partners include 15 East, the legendary '21' Club, Alloro, Anfora, dell'anima, the James Beard Foundation, Junoon, L'Artusi, L'Ecole, the restaurant at the French Culinary Institute, Lunetta, Merchants NY Cafe, Merchants River House, Miranda, One if By Land Two if by Sea, Pera Mediterranean Brasserie, Pescatore, Pound & Pence, PUBLIC, Southwest NY, Tagine Dining Gallery, Tamba, Thalia, and Tocqueville. The company plans to significantly increase the number of New York Metro Area restaurant options offered over the coming months.

Foodie Registry was founded in 2010 and operates an innovative online wedding registry for restaurant gift certificates. The company was created after Jennifer and Ben Reid were pressured to register for things for their own wedding that they didn't need or want and, in a fit of inspiration and rebellion, instead sent out a list of restaurants they loved or wanted to try. The list was a smashing success, Jennifer and Ben had "Friday night date-nights" for months, guests were excited to give the newlyweds a romantic meal out together as opposed to something that gathered dust on a shelf, and Foodie Registry was born.
