FedEx Is Set To Test Out Nissans E-NV200 As An All-Electric Delivery Van Possibility
Online, July 24, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Nissan of Clinton is excited to see that FedEx plans to use the new Nissan electric van as a delivery truck! As a part of continuous efforts to be more environmentally friendly and to generate less and less greenhouse gasses, FedEx is looking to replace at least part of its residential delivery fleet with electric vehicles. As EVs get remarkably better equivalent MPGs than even the most fuel efficient traditional vehicles, the decision is definitely a step in the right direction. Real world testing of the electric van is expected to take place in Japan's Yokohama region in the coming month.
The Nissan e-NV200 is a commercial van that is based off of the already successful Nissan LEAF and uses the same advanced, all-electric powertrain. Electric vehicles are known for creating no greenhouse gasses at the time of use. While some CO2 is generated in the production of the electricity at plants, the overall efficiency of the entire system is much better than that of internal combustion engines. Electric vehicles are perfect for the end run deliveries to residential addresses. The shorter delivery distances, low speeds and frequent stops are the sort of environment where EVs really outperform gasoline powered vehicles. As an added bonus, the e-NV200 will feature a DC fast charger that can recharge the battery in about 30 minutes.
This testing is also exciting news for the individual consumer as the real world results will be used to make better technology and vehicles in the near future.
