International IT services provider FDM Group was a sponsor for the New York Celebration of Women in Computing (NWCWiC) conference held April 19th and 20th in Albany, New York.

Attendees gathered at the Desmond Albany Hotel and Conference Center for the second occurrence of this annual conference. Bringing together students, faculty, and professionals from the technology field, the program promotes the academic, social, and professional growth of technical women in New York. The conference served as a forum to open up a dialogue about issues common to women in the technology industry.

Featured speakers included Dr. Wendi Heinzelman of the University of Rochester and Lorraine Herger, Director of Integrated Solutions and CIO of IBM Research. Throughout the conference, attendees took part in career and resume advising, breakout discussion sessions, networking, and a career fair. It was an immersive weekend designed to support and encourage women interested in launching successful careers in STEM.

FDM's Ashley Lofters commented, "It was refreshing to see so many qualified women that are passionate about technology and looking for a way to jumpstart their career in IT. The attendees were thankful for the chance to network while learning more about potential opportunities for women in a predominately male industry."

As an avid supporter of women in STEM, FDM was proud to be sponsoring the event. In 2011 the international IT services provider launched its own Women in IT campaign, which aims to encourage and support women in business and IT.

As part of the ongoing initiative, FDM holds regular 'Women in IT Advantage Sessions,' which offer the opportunity for women who are interested in pursuing an IT career to network with industry professionals and gain insight into what their professional future might have in store for them. Each session includes presentations delivered by female IT professionals offering advice for ladies to succeed in the field. Every event closes with a round of networking, giving guests the opportunity to forge relationships with other like-minded women that could support them throughout their careers.

As part of the campaign, FDM has also introduced a 'Female Champions' initiative that offers women in the organization a mentor to support her professional growth. Boasting a female majority across its management team, FDM is committed to championing women in IT worldwide.
