Fay's Restaurant Contributing In the Community
Online, July 6, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Looking for ways to conserve funds, the creative 1st grade teachers of DeMello Elementary School and owner of Fay's Restaurant in Dartmouth, Massachusetts (which is within walking distance of DeMello Elementary School) created a learning experience and fun field trip at the same time.
Under the careful guidance of Fay's dining room staff and chefs, each class learned how to make their own pizza. While their pizzas cooked each student completed an exercise reviewing the pizza making process and learning the meanings of some new words with their teachers. Then of course came the best part, the eating of their masterpieces!
This was the 4th annual field trip for the 1st grade classes of DeMello Elementary School, said Rachel Dyer, teacher and one of the original organizers of the field trip. "What a great way to make learning fun for the kids!" she said enthusiastically. Ms. Dyer's class was one of the first classes to come through Fay's earlier in May for the pizza learning experience that also included Mrs. Sylvia's, Mrs. Daniel's and Mrs. Oliveira's 1st grade classes. A fun field trip for the children who were motivated by creating, learning and let's not forget eating their way through their gastronomic lesson!
