Fagbug Gay Lesbian Hate Crime Documentary Filmmaker to Visit Washington, D.C. Area

"Fagbug" documentary filmmaker Erin Davies is set to make her mark in Washington, D.C. in October 2010.

Fagbug is a documentary film that focuses on Erin Davies of Troy, New York, who rechristened her Volkswagen Bettle - which was previously vandalized with slurs - into "fagbug" and used it to start a cross-continental trip to raise awareness about gay rights.

Davies, a Sage College grad student, documented her 58-day trip in which she had interviewed 400 people, discovered the virulence of hate crimes, and recorded reactions to her queerly customized ride. The "Fagbug" Documentary, released by Garden Thieves Pictures, accepted numerous awards. It is currently sold on DVD at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy and is now available free via hulu.com.

Davies currently tours with her Rainbow VW to speak at universities across North America. She has spoken at over 100 schools, including Yale and Cornell University, to bring awareness about hate crimes and to confront homophobia. Davies also became a guest on National Public Radio and has been featured on ABC News, Newsweek, BBC and Vanity Fair.
