Event Search 2.0: Combining Time And Space For More Efficiency

Visual Search Enables Users To Customize Efforts Of Finding Specific Events Around Any Address Or GPS Coordinates.

In today's world the Internet hosts many web sites, which enable their users to find out about various events, including specifics such as date, location, cost and description. Even though this enhances people's ability to plan out their free time and stumble upon events that would have otherwise gone by unnoticed, frustration can easily arise, when one is provided with an abundance of options that are not within an acceptable radius nor visually represented. According to SocialVents.com Co-founder Alex Santos, a visual search for local events alleviates a lot of the potential headache when planning a night out on the town or trying to find a local band's show for example.

Events that are displayed on the SocialVents map, for whichever US location the users provide, are aggregated from various, independent sources from around the web. Real time event updates and additions give the site a robust and current inventory of events, which in turn assure the users that they are not missing anything that goes on in their neighborhood. One of the site's early adopters, a young health care professional with a J.D., even went as far as saying "This site is the kayak.com for events" and added "Seriously, I have actively searched for a site like this many times". SocialVents.com not only displays local events, but also gives visitors the option to search by date, as well as drill down into various categories, in case someone is looking for a specific type of event, may it be related to sports, nightlife and so on. When asked about how the idea for the site came about, Co-founder Kevin Tabatabai simply said "We became annoyed with the current approach to event search. When searching for something to do in Los Angeles, I don't necessarily need to know about every little event in the city, just what is happening in my immediate vicinity." He added, "If we can add a visual component, even better for the purpose of orientation".

Events are depicted by little pins on the map, which are accompanied by the event name and a small image, describing the event category. By clicking on each pin, users can pull up the event details and follow a link back to the referrer of the event posting. As another user, an academic, put it, "The simplicity of the site is amazing, I can't see how this site
wouldn't be a success."
