Even In Times Of Austerity A Lawnmower Makes More Sense Than A Goat!

Online, April 12, 2013 (Newswire.com) - This monthin the city of Oshkosh, in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, a report listing possible budget cuts for the school district suggested that they "Use goats to mow lawns". At first glance the suggestion seems like a great way to save some money, although some argue that sheep are actually better suited to the school district's needs.

"Having raised sheep, over goats, I can tell you that I would rather deal with sheep," district superintendant Stan Mack said. "Goats are more entertaining, but they would also climb and walk on top of cars in the parking lot. And then we'd have the bill of paying for damage to paint because goats don't hesitate walking on top of cars. So there's a downside to the goat situation. I've never seen a sheep walk on top of a car, but I have seen a goat walk on top of cars."

Although intended as a moment of levity in amongst a list of painful cuts, Oshkosh is not the first to consider this option. President Woodrow Wilson let sheep graze on the White House lawn to cut grounds keeping costs.
