Essex Garage Launches New Service to Combat Theft
Online, January 9, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Based at their servicing centre in Essex, MotorAid's new service will supply and fit ARMACAT security devices to private and commercial vehicles which is designed to prevent thieves from stealing catalytic converters.
Catalytic converters are stolen using basic tools and it takes approximately sixty seconds for one to be removed from a vehicle. Manufactured to ISO9001 standard, the Armacat device is a stainless steel cylindrical wrap which is attached to a vehicle's chassis by a strong stainless steel cable. The device improves security by acting as a metal barrier around the catalytic converter and is secured to the vehicle chassis by an 8 mm diameter stainless steel cable and eyelets making it difficult to be removed.
Armacat also utilises shear-nuts and high strength dome head bolts that prevent tampering. The shear-nuts can only be removed with specialist tools and therefore creates a further problem to thieves. For certain vehicle models a manifold security bolt can also be used with the security device.
Because of the declining economic climate in the UK and the rising prices of precious metals, catalytic converter theft has increased rapidly since 2008. CATS are fitted underneath the majority of petrol vehicles located in the exhaust system and contain the precious metals platinum, palladium and rhodium. The catalytic converter is then sold onto scrap metal dealers for cash which makes tracking and recovery virtually impossible.
Supply and fitting costs £155.00 plus VAT. An on-site fitting service is also available and is included in the price. MotorAid Ltd can be contacted on 01268 725846.
