The Process and Manufacturing Sector was well represented at the Advance Manufacturing Growth Summit, where Ministers focused on engaging with small and medium businesses and improving Sector image, chairing a series of breakout meetings with summit attendees. Whilst examples largely revolved around the usual Automotive and Aerospace industries there was a clearer recognition of the industries within the Proskills footprint, and their worth to manufacturing as a whole than ever before.
Terry Watts, CEO of Proskills attended the Summit, taking the chance to invite employers and heads of trade associations, "I was very encouraged by the Summit. All too often, the importance of the Process and Manufacturing sector has been overlooked when it comes to engaging directly with Government, so it was refreshing that Government had finally taken the opportunity to sit down with members of our industries and hear what needed to be said."
Terry Watts continued, "It is clear that the Government is in full support of British Manufacturing and there is a distinct willingness, and urgency to help encourage growth of the sector. We managed to get 12 representatives of our sector to the meeting and were given the chance to air our views and at last I feel that employers in our industries are being listened to and their opinions taken on board."
