Emprise Management Group Uses Travel to Encourage Growth

Emprise Management Group top producers enjoy several travel opportunities throughout the year. The firm's President discussed the company's latest business trip, and how traveling together helps build strong teams.

“I believe that building a collaborative, tight-knit team is one of my top priorities as a business leader,” declared Sellus, President of Emprise Management Group. “I am always looking for ways to bring team members together. We have frequent team nights, we do team-building activities together, we volunteer together – but one of the most powerful tools I have for creating unity in our office is travel.”

One of the most recent trips Sellus and the Emprise Management Group team attended was a networking conference in Dallas, Texas. Sellus shared that when attending the Dallas conference, brand ambassadors networked with and learned from some of the most successful people in interactive marketing.

“We really got to home in on development at the Dallas conference,” Sellus asserted. “Also, those who achieved remarkable milestones in their careers were recognized for their achievements, which opened our eyes to the possibilities and opportunities that exist in this industry. Most importantly though, by sharing this experience together, we created deeper professional bonds with one another. Collaboration and communication always improve after an event like this, because we had a chance to connect with our Emprise Management Group colleagues in a way that didn’t rely on our professional titles or responsibilities. We were just learning and having fun together.”

Emprise Management Group’s President Discusses Characteristics of High-Performing Teams

High-functioning teams require a number of ingredients, but the most important of these is communication, Sellus explained. Studies show that in the most effective groups, everyone talks and listens for roughly the same amount of time. Also, these people tend to face one another frequently, using gestures and word choices that convey energy and enthusiasm.

“This may not seem directly related to our travel program, but there are other features to cohesive units as well,” Sellus stated. “For example, team members in ideal teams know how to connect with each other directly, without the need for the team leader. Also, in a healthy team dynamic there are side conversations that supplement and support the team’s main purpose, and those people can periodically break away from the group to learn new information, which they then come back and share.”

“This is exactly what happens when we travel together to a conference,” Sellus continued.
“We all get the chance to listen and learn throughout the day, then share our findings with each other later that night. We do so face-to-face, and we do it without the need for someone to moderate the conversation. After a while, people gravitate toward others with similar interests, and then we break up and learn new things the next day. Conference attendance allows us to hit all the bases of team building, and when we come home we’re more unified and motivated to reach our collective goals.”
