Weeklong conference hosted in 12 cities simultaneously including to begin September 24-28

Social Media Week's September 2012 conference is less than two weeks away from launch, taking place the whole week beginning September 24 and hosted in 12 cities including New York, London, and Vancouver amongst others. For the first time ever, Shanghai will be amongst those chosen to host the worldwide Social Media event.

This year will be Shanghai's first year as a host of Social Media Week and they have proudly chosen DT Communications Asia Pacific ("DT Communications") to organize a series of cutting-edge events under a local theme. Part of the prestigious Blue Focus Communication Group, the largest communications group in China and Asia, DT Communications is one of the most effective and creative PR, event management and marketing companies in Asia. With their global ties and international mindset, DT Communications links Blue Focus Communications Group with the rest of the world while at the same time, the acclaimed Blue Focus Communications Group reinforces DT Communications' links to China. It therefore seems apt that for a truly glocal project like Social Media Week, DT Communications have been chosen for their combination of worldwide presence with Chinese know-how.

With 2 global conferences each year taking place simultaneously in multiple cities, the goal of each Social Media Week conference is to provide a spectrum of events and content programming that explores emerging trends and which are largely free to attend. Collaborative and co-curated, the events and programs are tailored to each local market and local conferences are hosted by city organizers who work collaboratively with leading practitioners, industry professionals, content partners, brand partners, event hosts and local advisory boards to produce more than two thousand events across 24 cities. Past speakers include Chris Hughes (co-founder of Facebook) and Dennis Crowley (founder & CEO of Foursquare).

In keeping with the glocality of Social Media Week, DT Communications has strived to adapt the international Social Media Week for the local Chinese palate. The result is a local theme, "Empowering Business through Collaboration," which will look at ways social media has changed the way people do business in China and how business has changed through social media. The theme is designed as a call to action, enlightening businesses around the world on ways social media can empower them to greater heights. With this theme in mind, the days of the conference will be divided into the themes of Mobility, Social Media and Brands, International & Business, Digital Analysis and Arts and Culture.

This year's highlight speakers include a host of industry leaders, none more so than David Liu, Founder and CEO of leading location-based social network Jiepang.com, who will be speaking on the 'Importance of Social Apps on Mobile Phones.' On top of this, there will be such luminaries as Itamar Medeiros (Senior User Experience Designer at Autodesk), Kenneth Kwok (Founder of Beehive) and Philipp Lehmkuh (Managing Director of trommsdorff + druner).
