Since MADD launched its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving in 2006, significant improvements have been made to reduce the number of drunk driving accidents, but there is still plenty of work to be done. Updated figures reveal that drunk driving costs the United States more than $132 billion annually. In addition, of the 10,839 people killed in 2009, 181 were children under the age of 15. More than half of them were passengers of drunk drivers. Based on a recent MADD report, the organization rated the nation a three stars out of a five star scale, based on the average of the state ratings. This shows future measures need to be implemented to better protect drivers and prevent more fatal and serious injuries in Michigan car accident.
