In women, it's mainly fixing pelvic floor prolapse using native tissue or biologic tissue as opposed to synthetic mesh. And in men, it's in solving their urinary problems with advanced technologies including laser, robotics and other minimally-invasive procedures."

When asked why he decided to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Gonzalez said:
"Ever since I was a child, I was as interested in art as I was in science. In college, these interests continued to develop. I was most interested in sculpting and was fortunate to study under the late George Baker — a well-known known sculptor — under whose guidance I won an overall art contest resulting in a sculpture that I made being exhibited in the LA Museum of Contemporary Art. I have always been interested in reconstruction and finding that space where medicine and art come together to improve a patient’s life."
As a thought-leader in his specialty, Dr. Gonzalez believes in a multimodal approach to treating his patients, using the latest technology to treat incontinence, especially when prior treatments have failed. In particular, he has interests in vaginal reconstruction to restore function and anatomy using natural and biological tissue transfer to repair prolapse through a vaginal approach. As the director of Clinical Research at Houston Metro Urology, Dr. Gonzalez’s research interests include the development and evaluation of minimally invasive treatments that improve voiding function in patients. This focus on both his research and his practice is ultimately a means of reaching his primary goal as a physician of providing state-of-the-art urologic care to improve patients’ quality of life. He noted:
