DirectRooms.com - Attend Dancing and Music on Krabi in May's Sea Gypsy Festival 2011

A chance to sample and participate in the Thai Sea Gypsy way of life will be attracting visitors from all over Thailand and around the world to the popular southern beach destination this May, reports online hotel comparator DirectRooms.com.

The popular website recommends anyone heading to Krabi in mid-May book ahead online to be sure of getting a good hotel room deal.

May 17 2011 sees the Floating Boats of the Sea Gypsy festival in Thailand, and the southern destination of Krabi will host many folk events, including dance, music and traditional food stalls, on its beaches.

Many of the surrounding islands in the Andaman Sea were first colonised by the tribes of Sea Gypsies throughout history, and today they continue to live a traditional life making their living off what they catch from the sea. Tourists to Krabi can typically take day trips by boat to visit Sea Gypsy villages, but in May they are coming to the mainland.

Popular resorts like Ao Nang and Railay Beach will host Sea Gypsies who bring their wooden boats onto land to enjoy dancing, singing, music and partying as part of this good luck event which is said to bring good fortune to fishermen.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: "This event represents a great chance to see a different side of Thailand, with the local Sea Gypsies interacting with tourists in a different way. Instead of seeing them fishing off the coast this is a chance to enjoy a party with them - so we advise booking ahead to be sure of getting the Krabi hotels you want if attending this festival."
