Dia De Los Muertos Tradition Honored by Cake Decorators

The Sugar Skull Bakers - a group collaboration of cookie, sugar, cake decorators, and artists from around the world. For its third year the group brings its tradition to life with a beautifully curated collection of sweets to the World Wide Web, honoring the 3500 year old Mexican holiday - Dia de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead.

The group, founded in 2013, by cake artist Berenice “Berry” Rabago, of Berry’s Sweet Studio and graphic artist Yuki Navarro, in Mexico City, MX. is comprised of a variant degree of artists who work with edible mediums. Their skills expertise range from hobbyist to professional. Some have competed worldwide and have even appeared on National American television network programs such as Sugar Dome, Cake Wars, and more. Each member was invited to join based on their admiration for calacas and calaveras (skeletons and skulls).

In previous years, team founder Berry has not expressed a specific theme, this year she asked her team to incorporate traditional Mexican foods, marigolds and other flowers. “This is my idea just to have a lot of bakers make a Dia de los muertos cake to share on 1st of November, DAY OF THE DEAD!” It's just a fun page … no hurry, no worries just SKULLS.  No blood, no gore. It’s to remember and to celebrate our beloved.”
