Deans Installs New Awnings and Café Barriers for the Porcupine Public House

A popular old pub on Leicester Square, London gets new face lift from Deans.

The Porcupine Public House in Leicester Square London has been in existence for 300 years so has seen many changes over this time from when the original customers would have arrive on foot or by carriage right up to the present day when the only way to arrive is on foot or by bus. The pub is owned by Mitchells and Butlers and is branded under the traditional Nicholson’s banner.

This popular old pub on Leicester Square, London has recently received a face lift including the installation of new commercial awnings and cafe barriers by Deans. All decorated in distinctive but traditional style by Deans own specialist graphics department.

Outside eating and drinking has become a feature of modern catering in the modern bustling city environment and London is not exception to this. Of course weather in the UK is not always conducive to comfortable outside entertainment but as the British like to enjoy the outside when they can, solutions must be found.

The exterior awnings which Deans have installed will provide shelter from sun and rain and, in some cases such as this; they need to be of the traditional Victorian type in order to fit in with the ambience of the location and with the planning requirements of the local authorities. The planning authorities in key parts of London are very keen to maintain the correct historical aspect of their respective areas and it is a good idea to view the local authority web site in order to obtain advice. It is also a good idea for interested individuals to ask their awning or café barrier dealer what experience they have of such regulations.

Complimentary to the installed commercial awnings are café barriers which conveniently mark out the demesne of the property and ensure the table facilities are used by patrons only. The café barriers can be permanently fixed of glass or aluminium construction or can be moveable, as here, and taken in each evening. The café barriers provide wind protection to give a more comfortable dining experience and also can be decorated to provide additional branding. In this case they also have a message declaring the particular speciality of the house – which is Traditional beer battered Fish and Chips. A truly British delicacy.

These café barriers and new awnings were installed in time for the Christmas season in late December 2015
