"I want to continue serving my clients and providing them with the best representation possible. I always put them first, and moving forward I want to continue learning more about their business goals and priorities so that I can better anticipate and address their needs."
Daniel J. Brenner, Partner, Laurie & Brennan, LLP
With nearly a decade dedicated to law, Mr. Brenner brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular to his areas of specialization, construction and real estate law. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in law, Mr. Brenner said:
"I come from three generations of general contractors, so I had always wanted to be involved with construction in some manner. In a large sense, construction is in my blood, but I was always interested in the law, so I wanted to find an avenue that combined both construction and the law. In that regard, practicing construction law is the best of both worlds."
Since earning his law degree, Mr. Brenner quickly became an accomplished attorney, working on numerous large and complex construction and real estate disputes. As a partner at Laurie & Brennan, LLP he represents and counsels a wide range of professionals in the construction and real estate industries in both litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He also drafts and negotiates complex construction contracts and counsels and advises clients on effective strategy for project execution and completion.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Brenner has won or successfully resolved numerous cases. Specifically, he has achieved impressive results for his clients in matters involving breaches of contract, mechanics liens, construction defects, design deficiencies, property damage, and delays, among others. With a reputation as an effective litigator, Mr. Brenner has won numerous jury verdicts and arbitration awards in complex cases, including a jury trial victory awarding his client nearly $1 million in damages, plus a rare award of attorneys’ fees under the Illinois Mechanics Lien Act, and complete denial of the opposing party’s counterclaim which sought nearly $10 million from Mr. Brenner’s client.
As a thought-leader in his industry, Mr. Brenner has authored and co-authored numerous articles and publications in prominent journals in his field, including a contribution to The Annotated Construction Law Glossary on behalf of the the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry (2010). His writing has covered an eclectic array of topics in construction and real estate law and beyond, from the Firearm Owner’s Protection Act to the role arbitration has played in construction in the Middle East.
As his first decade in law nears completion, Mr. Brenner continues to gain momentum. He looks forward to the unique challenges that lie ahead for the construction industry and is adamant about continuing to put client service first and foremost. Mr. Brenner notes:
"I want to continue serving my clients and providing them with the best representation possible. I always put them first, and moving forward I want to continue learning more about their business goals and priorities so that I can better anticipate and address their needs."
Mr. Brenner is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. He is a member of the American Bar Association where he is on the Forum on the Construction Industry of its Section of Public Contract Law, Chicago Bar Association, and the Jewish Council for Youth Services where he is a Board Member and the Vice-President of Operations.
