TAMPA—June 8, 2015—Tampa cupcake company, Luisa’s Treats, has created an innovative solution for the shipping and design of their cupcakes.  Owners Luisa Bejarano and husband Alvaro Mejia developed a recipe for a sugar paste, similar to fondant, which can be screen-printed clearly and easily as well as maintain its perfect condition even through the shipping process, something that was thought nearly impossible in the cupcake industry. 

Prior to their innovation and new recipe for a travel-friendly frosting, the packaging and shipping for cupcakes was very expensive.  Any type of container that could hold the cupcakes in place without disturbing their fragile frosting was costly. Additionally, the shipment needed to be fast and the handling careful to have even the slightest chance of the order arriving fresh and unharmed.

Simple selections for 6 cake flavors, colors for the icing and then any custom requests are completed within a few clicks.  The screen-printing is literally their “icing on the cake” and is done with FDA-approved edible rice paper and edible vegetable inks. With their online “Cupcake Builder”, customers can upload the pictures or logos to be screened onto the cupcakes, allowing for custom designs for each order.
