Culinary Journey to Santa Fe Offers a True Taste of the Southwest

Culinary delights, traditional culture, and an inspiring landscape provide a feast for the senses in this fascinating regional tour

The culinary traditions of the Southwest take center stage on this 4-day tour through the tasty Santa Fe area. James Beard award-winner Lois Ellen Frank will welcome the group into her home for an intimate cooking class focused on local Native American foods that will surprise and delight the palate. Explorations of local foods through a guided visit to the local farmer's market, a hands-on cooking class with Coyote Cafe's Eric DiStefano and a tasty history lesson with local chocolate historian Mark Siscenti help create an irresistibly delicious itinerary.

Rounding out this taste of the Southwest, tour participants will also delve into the vibrant culture and breathtaking scenery of the region. On a visit to San Ildefonso Pueblo, they'll meet renowned Pueblo potter Dora Tse Pe, getting a firsthand look at her traditional pottery techniques that stem from her own Zia roots and act as a conduit to the Pueblo people and culture. Guided walks through Santa Fe's historic center, as well as an exploratory hike at the Ojo Caliente Hot Springs, provide a real appreciation for the inspiration this landscape has held for centuries.

WanderTours founder and author of the Wanderlust and Lipstick guides, Beth Whitman, will lead the tour through Santa Fe and environs. Says Whitman, "I'm pulled back to this city time and again and I'm delighted to be sharing my love of this region with others! Vegetarians and meat eaters alike will find this tour bursting with flavor that's found in New Mexican cooking."

The cost of this 4-day WanderTour is $1,250 and includes 3 nights accommodation at a downtown Santa Fe hotel, 6 meals, guides, drinks other than alcohol, and transportation. Tour dates are September 15 - 18, 2011.
