CubbySpot: New App Helps Mommies and Daddies Find Daycare

Toronto startup CubbySpot invites parents, providers to test new daycare-finding app.

Looking for a daycare just got easier. There's now an app for that.

A finalist in a worldwide science and technology award, Toronto-based company CubbySpot, which launched earlier this year, is looking for parents and daycare providers to take its unique app for a spin.

Modern parents are always on the go and are usually short on time. They may not have time to sit down at night at their computers to search the Internet for daycares and to sign up to waiting lists. CubbySpot helps do all that and more. They can also get updates on their waitlist status, and confirm enrolment - all from their mobile phones.

Regnard Raquedan, CubbySpot CEO & Co-founder

A mobile platform that helps parents find the best available daycare for their child and daycares to fill vacancies, CubbySpot is now in beta testing for iOS and Android, said company co-founder and chief executive officer Regnard Raquedan. This means that users can now sign up for early access.

“Modern parents are always on the go and are usually short on time,” said Raquedan. “They may not have time to sit down at night at their computers to search the Internet for daycares and to sign up to waiting lists. CubbySpot helps do all that and more. They can also get updates on their waiting list status, and confirm enrollment – all from their mobile phones.”

The beta testing period will allow those who sign up now at www.cubbyspot.com (the address is http://biz.cubbyspot.com for daycares) and clicking “Get Early Access” to get a sneak peek at this hotly anticipated new app. While the app got good feedback from competition judges and current beta users, additional feedback that the app’s new adopters will provide has the potential to help Raquedan iron out any possible kinks CubbySpot may experience.

The idea for the company was realized after Raquedan and his wife Liza had trouble finding the perfect daycare for their daughter after a seemingly endless cycle of phone calls, site visits and waiting lists. The couple reasoned that there had to be a simpler solution to the problem many Canadians faced. They developed CubbySpot in hopes that other families wouldn’t have to go through the same stress that they did.

It paid off earlier this year, when the company became one of 30 to reach the finals of the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Tech-I Competition, an annual competition for science and technology entrepreneurs from emerging economies worldwide. CubbySpot, the only Canadian-based startup company to make the finals, beat out an incredible 760 other applications from 74 countries.
