CORONA, Calif., November 20, 2018 (Newswire) - Recently shared some data that serves as an eye opener for people who think that opioid addiction is only limited to the USA. Dr. Banerjee also highlighted what the governments of the respective countries are doing to control opioid addiction.

Highlighting prevention, treatment options and the need for more research as potential solutions to the global opioid crisis, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said that the governments need to come together to create solutions that work. Dr. Banerjee also mentioned that an addict must never simply be blamed for addiction because many people don’t realize that opioids can harm them until they become dependent on it. Reiterating that medically-assisted addiction treatment is one of the most successful paths that lay ahead for an addict, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said that the benefits of this option are numerous and the success rate is quite high. There is no reason not to give it a shot.

Only a few people take opioids as an experiment or to have some fun. Most don't even know that the drugs are addictive when they take it.

Many people have the misconception that opioid crisis is only huge in the United States of America. Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee, who founded the Pacific Pain Care Consultants and is Board Certified both in Pain Management and Addiction Medicine along with having a long spanning successful career in medically assisted addiction treatment, recently shared facts on how opioid crisis is going global. Dr. Banerjee also suggested some means that are being done and must be done to control this epidemic that has the potential to destroy all humans.

Admitting that the United States of America is perhaps the worst hit by the Opioid Crisis, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said, “Overdose is the leading cause of death for Americans under 50 and 91 people lose their lives to addiction every day. President Trump has rightly labeled this crisis as a public health emergency recently, and this announcement will ensure that more people are hired to take care of the opioid crisis, telemedicine services are expanded, and there is permit flexibility while using the federal grant money.”

Stating that Canada and the UK are in a similar situation, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said, “Canadians consume the second highest levels of opioids and most opioid-related deaths occur in Western Canada. About 13 percent of Canadians used opioids in 2015 and 13 hospitalizations every day in Canada in 2016 were due to opioid poisonings. About 2816 opioid-related deaths occurred in Canada in 2016. Canada also implemented a public health emergency response to prevent, treat and reduce harm to individuals. Similarly, 1 or every 3 overdose deaths in Europe occur in the UK. In 2016, 24 million people were using opioid prescriptions, and the number of drug poisoning hospitalizations rose to 11,660. In the same year.  The government of UK has circulated information online so that drug abuse deaths can be prevented.”

Answering the question of what to do when dealing with an opioid crisis, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said “Though there is no one size fits all approach that will help the governments to control the opioid epidemic, all the governments need to come together and develop a two-point strategy. The first should be focused on ensuring that opioid use is prevented as much as possible. The second is to ensure that treatment options like medically-assisted addiction treatment are available to every addict or dependent. There is also a need to do more research in finding alternatives to opioids so that no one needs them in the future, not even the cancer patients who need to bear a lot of pain every second. The governments of various nations need to come together to ensure that the global opioid crisis doesn’t destroy all the humans on earth one day.”

Explaining that an addict should never be blamed outright for his or her addiction, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said “It is a common misconception that if a person is dependent on opioids, he or she is to blame for his or her condition. In most cases, it is not true. Opioid addiction can impact anyone, be it a strong-willed person or a weak-willed one. In many cases, the addiction begins when a person seeks some relief from chronic pain, and he or she often doesn’t realize that he or she has become an addict until it’s too late. Only a few people take opioids as an experiment or to have some fun. Most don’t even know that the drugs are addictive when they take it. So, blaming the addict is not the correct approach as morals mostly have nothing to do with an addiction.”

Highlighting what should be done if a loved one is suffering from opioid addiction, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said “The first thing you need to do is to make a person realize that he or she has become an addict. You should ask the person to realize how opioids are altering his or her lifestyle and behavior.  Only when an addict realizes that he needs help should you consult with an expert on medically assisted addiction treatment to start the process.”

Describing how medically-assisted addiction treatment benefits an addict, Corona Physician Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee said, “An expert will try different therapies and medications combinations on an addict to find out which strategy works for you by mapping your response to treatment. Once treatment starts to suit you, you will develop more self-confidence, your cravings will reduce, the withdrawal symptoms won’t remain terrible, and the chances of relapse will decline. This means that you will be able to stay away from opioids for weeks or months while you will get the confidence to get back to your life again. After a few months of treatment, many patients can get back their careers, their loved ones, and their social circle. Once you reach that stage, keep consulting with the expert on medically assisted addiction treatment to ensure that the relapse never haunts you again.”
