Comfort Inn Capital Beltway Considers How Hotel Design Affects Customer Experience

As fashion designer, Vivienne Tam, remakes a high-end Hong Kong hotel, the Comfort Inn Capital Beltway explains ways that many American hotel chains are taking similar design approaches.

When tourists are away from home, they often hope that their hotel accommodations meet or exceed their expectations of comfort and relaxation. These qualities are often desired of every hotel - no matter what expense level a traveler may choose. According to a recent article from USA Today, famed fashion designer, Vivienne Tam, has been contracted by Hotel Icon-a five-star, edgy hotel in Hong Kong-to redesign interior spaces to create a more open and relaxing atmosphere. While Tam's initiatives are certainly creative and captivating, the Comfort Inn Capital Beltway , located near Washington, D.C., notes that travelers do not have to travel across the globe or spend exorbitant amounts of money to check-in at a peaceful destination.

According to the article, Tam has several plans to turn guest rooms at Hotel Icon into uncluttered and chic spaces that "showcase Hong Kong's harbor views." However, Greg Miller, Managing Director of Comfort Inn Capital Beltway, adds that the entire hotel room does not have to be stripped away to open the space up - in fact, it could be as simple as getting rid of loose ends. He states, "We certainly agree that eliminating clutter from hotel rooms is desired by the travelers to our hotels. As a brand, Comfort Inn has made great strides to eliminate unnecessary tent cards, brochures and plastic."

While Tam's new rooms may seem as luxurious as her fashions, it is clear that not everyone can afford to stay at such resorts, and many hotels can't afford to hire a famous designer. However, those are not reasons to compromise comfort to enjoy a great vacation or offer top-notch accommodations. Miller notes that the Comfort Inn Capital Beltway is part of an exciting new initiative to modernize rooms. The hotel has already switched to flat panel televisions which "open up the rooms considerably" and has many more plans set forth by Comfort Inn to move into its next phase of design.

Miller explains these new strategies, "With the enhanced bedding, including comforters and bed skirts, the rooms look much cleaner on entry. With our next refresh, we are turning to our design team to find better ways to incorporate desk space into the room so extra room is afforded for seating and relaxing." He adds another additional perk to staying at the Comfort Inn Capital Beltway - it is close to many treasures in our nation's capital, which are fascinating spectacles for any visitor.
