Coding Boot Camp Offers 100% Scholarship for Female Developers
Silicon Valley, May 4, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Coding House, a full immersion coding boot camp in Silicon Valley, is offering a 100% scholarship (which includes room and board) to women that want to become software developers.
According to Payscale.com, 90% of software developers are men. A general hypothesis for this huge gender imbalance is schooling - Women earn just 18% of undergraduate degrees awarded for computer science. The largest employers in Silicon Valley, including Apple, Google, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Yahoo, are comprised of 70% males.
With 1.4 million projected job openings for software developers in the coming years, the time for change is now. While some coding bootcamps already offer some scholarships (usually between $500-1000), this $16,800 opportunity is unprecedented in the community. “We hope that this scholarship helps remove the roadblocks for women to start a career in software development”, says Coding House Founder, Nick James.
While Coding House is only awarding this full-ride to one female per cohort, they offer an additional $2,500 scholarship to all women interested in attending their bootcamp. “Coding House is looking for a woman who wants an opportunity to follow her dreams and make a real impact on the world.”
