Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx) Small Incision Lenticule Extaction (SMILE) is the only minimally invasive, flapless procedure in laser vision correction. While its laser vision correction predecessors, LASIK and PRK, both rely on the creation of a corneal flap, ReLEx SMILE creates a micro incision on the corneal surface, using a femtosecond laser, to remove stromal tissue and correct the patient’s vision. This latest advancement in laser vision correction repairs vision problems such as short sightedness or astigmatism, and is suitable for patients with thin corneas, dry eyes or contact lens intolerance.
