City Hospital Gives Healing Touch to Minor Rape Victim

Doctors at Artemis Health Sciences said that the girl is stable but needs care as there are high chances of her developing an infection. The girl was brought to the hospital around 11.30am for post-surgical treatment. "It will take at least two months for the wounds to heal," said Dr Veena Bhat, director of obstetrics and gynecology, Artemis Health Sciences.
The girl, who was found abandoned near the Sikanderpur Metro station, was initially examined at the Gurgaon Civil Hospital, where the doctors confirmed rape and referred her to Safdarjung Hospital for the reconstructive surgery. She spent 12 days at the hospital.
Doctors at Artemis said that the girl needed to undergo a re-surgery.
"Her lower part of the intestines has been damaged because of which she can't clear her bowels. Her intestines have been shifted upward temporarily to allow passage of stool. Once the wounds heal, she will have to undergo a re-surgery to put her intestines in place," explained Bhat.
The doctors have also noticed some bleeding and puss in the stitches. But they say it is a part of the healing process.
The victim's father has questioned the investigation as there has been no headway in the case. "It has been close to three weeks now and the police haven't been able to zero in on the accused. I don't know what future has in store for my daughter," said the victim's father.
On June 16, a day after the offence, the Gurgaon police had released a sketch of the accused and announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for any information about him. The sketch was made on the basis of the testimony given by the victim's cousin, who had accompanied her to the feast on the afternoon of June 15 near Bristol Chowk.
