Disk partitioning is act of dividing the storage space of a hard disk drive into separate data area. This partition editor program can be used to create, delete or modify these partitions. Once a disk is divided into several partitions, it may be stored in different partitions. Careful consideration of the size of the partition is very necessary because the ability to change the size depends on the file system installed on the partition.

Various reasons to use hard disk partitions

A hard disk can be split into multiple partitions in order to organize data more effectively. On Microsoft machines, it is very common to store the OS and applications on one hard disk partition and user data on another hard disk partition.

A hard disk is split in to multiple partitions. The only reason is because smaller partitions often have smaller cluster sizes. A cluster size is the smallest piece of data which a partition can store. This is a very useful strategy if you want to store a large number of small files.
