Central Properties Announces Art Opening February 29, 2012 Featuring Abstract Artist Stephen Griffin
Online, February 21, 2012 (Newswire.com) - WASHINGTON, DC - Central Properties is pleased to announce a community art opening event, set to take place at the company's architecturally striking retail office at 1353 V Street NW in the Union Row building on Wednesday, February 29th from 6pm-8pm. This event will feature abstract painter Stephen Griffin, whose work has been featured at local DC galleries including the Long View Gallery, and Gallery One Eight. The event is free and open to the public.
The artist, Steve Griffin's most recent "Strata" series of paintings emphasize strong horizontal compositions with colors representing earth, sky and water. The works have a remarkable texture and depth due to Griffin's technique of laying down multiple layers of paint, then sanding and scraping to reveal the foundational colors. The artist will be in attendance at the event, so this will be a great opportunity to greet him and see his work in person.
Griffin started his career as a photo-realistic painter in the 1960s and 70s. He received training at the Whitney Museum shortly after completing his education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He now lives in Virginia, and creates abstract structural works based on inspiration from natural sources. Regarding his "Strata" series, Griffin explains; "The basic horizontal stripe compositions in these paintings were initially inspired by the abundant river views in the beach town where I live, but the end result more closely resembles a cross-section of earth or the strata found in rocks."
