Carrier Johnson + CULTURE Earns Coveted Gold Nugget Honors
SAN DIEGO, August 4, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Judges for the 2020 Gold Nugget Awards have named Carrier Johnson + CULTURE as an Award of Merit winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from throughout the United States and internationally. Carrier Johnson + CULTURE earned its Merit honors for three projects.
- Point Loma Nazarene University Lyle and Grace Prescott Memorial Prayer Chapel was honored for Judges Special Award of Excellence.
- The Legacy International Center was honored for the Best Special Use Project.
- Shift Apartments was honored for Best Multi-family Housing Community 100 DU/Acre or more.
Carrier Johnson + CULTURE is excited to announce the Point Loma Nazarene University Lyle and Grace Prescott Memorial Prayer Chapel was chosen from the elite pool of Merit Award winners and awarded a Grand Award. This announcement was made at the 2020 Gold Nugget Virtual Awards Event on July 24, 2020. Located in San Diego, California, The Point Loma Nazarene University Chapel design for the university evolves from two inspirations: its serene natural setting, and the spiritual significance of the structure’s role as a spiritual and academic anchor for the campus. Simple, pure lines and forms help embody the true essence of a chapel’s purpose. The number three is evoked throughout the design as a symbolic reference to the Holy Trinity. For example, the distance from the entrance to the cross at the far end of the nave is 33 feet, and a tripartite window arrangement with floor-to-ceiling glass installed in angled recesses sits opposite three personal prayer niches.
