Care Management Technologies Announces New Michigan Clients

Care Management Technologies (CMT), a data-driven population health analytics company that specializes in behavioral health, today announced their Michigan-based clients, six Behavioral Health Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans, or PIHPs.  These six of the State’s 10 agencies serve the majority of Medicaid enrollees in the state, and will use CMT’s ProAct, the industry-leading behavioral healthcare data analytics and decision-support tool, to improve their approach to managing the overall health of their eligible members. Benefits will range from identifying opportunities to proactively address the needs of individuals before they experience the potentially devastating effects of chronic health issues to improving quality of care through care integration initiatives for their at-risk consumers.

“We selected CMT and ProAct after a thorough and diligent partner search because of their national reputation and behavioral health clinical and analytical expertise. SWMBH and our Community Mental Health partners are cognizant that we serve those in need and must utilize public funding to its most advantageous use”, said Bradley P. Casemore, MHSA, LMSW, FACHE, CEO of Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health (SWMBH), one of the CMT six.

"We're excited and honored to be working with six innovative PIHPs. Our emphasis is on helping customers like the Michigan PIHPs who serve and are at risk for complex behavioral health consumers and dedicate their professional lives and special expertise to improving quality of care and lowering costs for this population."

Along with SWMBH, the other Michigan CMT clients include:

  • Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority, Tom Watkins, Executive Director
  • Macomb County Community Mental Health, John Kinch, Executive Director
  • North Care Network, William Slavin, CEO
  • Northern Michigan Regional Entity, David Schneider CEO
  • Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority, Willie Brooks, CEO

“We’re excited and honored to be working with six innovative PIHPs,” said Carol Clayton, PhD, CMT CEO. “Our emphasis is on helping customers like the Michigan PIHPs who serve and are at risk for complex behavioral health consumers and dedicate their professional lives and special expertise to improving quality of care and lowering costs for this population,” said Dr. Clayton.  “Through ProAct, CMT’s unique data analytics and decision-support tool, we can bring insight and action to comprehensive data sets, and enable clients to speed the implementation of best practices – optimizing care and reducing variability that leads to poor outcomes for Michigan citizens and avoidable higher costs for taxpayers.”

These Michigan PIHPs will utilize ProAct’s ability to combine clinical and claims data to gain a clear, 360° view of consumer care and needs.  They will also take advantage of ProAct’s more advanced features – analyzing consumer data against an anonymized claims database with more than 800 million Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance claims data points; tracking comparative performance improvements based on customized and industry metrics; providing action based analytics through interoperable platforms at the agency level and utilizing CMT’s risk alerts to prevent emergency room and hospital readmissions.  In addition, these MI PIHPs will benefit from groundbreaking work conducted by CMT’s clinical and health experts, which ensures that the latest evidence-based behavioral health research outcomes are incorporated directly into the analysis engine and ready for application and interventions at the consumer specific level.

Using ProAct, the six Michigan PIHPs will organize and analyze volumes of complex data to better understand and manage risk, taking into account everything from treatment adherence and gaps in care to costly co-morbid conditions and underlying addiction or substance dependency concerns.  Drawing on more than 250 proprietary and validated clinical rules, the six CMT MI PIHPs will use ProAct to guide improvements in both aggregate and consumer-level decision-making that foster more efficient and effective delivery and management of care.  “CMT’s ProAct places our analytic abilities in the same or higher leagues than most in healthcare in achieving demonstrable results in population health gains, individual quality of life improvement, and per capita cost reductions,” according to Dr. Carmen McIntyre, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority.
