Capitol ATL Benefitted From Cross Training

Ongoing training is a central aspect of Capitol ATL life. The firm’s Director of Operations discussed the latest cross-training for industry leaders. He also elaborated on the dynamics of a healthy, upbeat company culture.

“In our line of work, we learn something new every day,” said Jose, the Capitol ATL Director of Operations. “Still, specially organized trainings are notable. They motivate us, leaving a renewed focus and heightened energy throughout the office.

"My colleagues and I never underestimate the value of an empowering and supportive office environment. Our mission, principles, people, customers, and overall work weaves together to create a winning Capitol ATL atmosphere."

Jose, Director of Operations

Most recently, the Capitol ATL organization enjoyed a particularly special event. They had the honor of a visit from the Chicago team, who cross-trained new hires. Jose said their guests did a great job of setting the standard, intensity, and passion in the office. Such qualities contribute directly to the company’s culture, and to lasting success for the business.

Capitol ATL Director Emphasizes the Meaning and Importance of Business Culture

“One of the many reasons we prioritize learning is its impact on culture,” Jose continued. “My colleagues and I never underestimate the value of an empowering and supportive office environment. Our mission, principles, people, customers, and overall work weaves together to create a winning Capitol ATL atmosphere.”

Jose likens culture to a personality. It is shaped by experience, decisions, relationships, beliefs, habits, and upbringing. It also operates based on a variety of rules – or norms – both spoken and unspoken. Outwardly, culture appears in the form of symbols, language, daily activities, and stories.

“I think it’s important to point out that culture is learned,” Jose stated. “It doesn’t simply exist. Through consequences and rewards, people repeat what they observe and what works well. It typically occurs through personal interaction. In terms of a business, people are introduced to culture when they see advertisements and walk through the doors of a brick-and-mortar location. Potential team members find it on the internet and when they sit down during interviews. It’s everywhere.”

According to Jose, culture is also negotiated. Many people and circumstances form an office atmosphere, so there is an organic give-and-take between them. This is one of the reasons an environment is difficult to change once it has developed. Although it can shift over time, it requires strategic effort and the development of different systems – not to mention discipline, group buy-in, and persistence.

“Culture is clearly no simple matter,” Jose concluded. “That’s why we take it so seriously. With deliberation, we work hard to maintain such an upbeat atmosphere. It’s the force behind our success, and we treasure it.”
