Capital, Inc.'s Year-Round Company Culture Centers on Fun

For many professional teams, the holiday season is the time to break from traditional workplace culture and add some excitement to the routine. At Capital, Inc., managers cite that team cohesion and fun activities always abound.

“Let’s just say, we don’t wait until December first to break out the fun,” said Chris, Capital, Inc.’s director of operations. “We believe that team bounding should be an all-year experience.”

Chris noted that the Capital, Inc. managers schedule periodic team training events. “We focus on facilitating strong relationships between team members,” he noted. “This is crucial in order to support our collaborative culture. Our associates work closely together to develop innovative solutions that incorporate diverse perspectives. This is only possible because of the environment we’ve created.”

"Sometimes we have special activities, like bowling nights or game nights, that really get associates laughing and having a great time,"

Chris highlighted the team’s weekly events. “Sometimes we have special activities, like bowling nights or game nights, that really get associates laughing and having a great time,” he shared. “Other times, we simply go out to dinner together or order takeout and relax as a team. As our firm grows, these events are great opportunities to help our new associates connect with our seasoned pros. This develops trust, which is necessary for our firm to flourish.”

Capital, Inc. Manager Describes Tips to Incorporate Team Spirit During the Holidays

Chris noted that while the Capital, Inc. group has fostered a team-based culture from the start, the holiday season is a perfect time for others to boost their team spirits. “Start by including your entire team in the holiday party planning,” shared Chris. “Often, only one or two team members make the decisions. If you can gain input from everyone, you’ll have a more meaningful event that everyone is excited about attending.”

“Celebrations are great opportunities to spark creativity as well,” Chris continued. “Therefore, don’t try to stick with traditional events. Ask team members what they would enjoy doing, and try to find common interests. For example, if nearly everyone on the team is a fan of a certain movie genre, host a movie night at a local cinema. You might be able to rent out the space for the evening.”

One thing Chris advised was to avoid activities that are not inclusive of everyone. “Consider the participation level of your team when selecting an event,” he shared. “Not everyone is as physically able as others. Therefore, you wouldn’t plan a ski event not everyone could participate in at least on some level.”

“Once you plan one event as a team, you’re on your way to creating a more fun atmosphere all year long,” Chris concluded. “From our team to yours, happy holidays and wishes for a great 2016!”
