CAA Announces Winner of 2016 Jerome Evans Memorial Scholarship

Kelsey White

CAA is proud to announce Kelsey White as our Jerome Evans Memorial Scholarship winner for 2016. Each year CAA awards $1,500 to the best essay entered by one of our graduating seniors in our scholarship contest. This year, the participants wrote short essays explaining how they have made an impact on the life of a person or group of people.

Each essay was evaluated based on the student’s overall impact and their writing ability.  This scholarship was named in honor of a former CAA team member, Jerome Evans who lost his life in a car accident on his way home from enrolling students in the program. He was passionate about helping students achieve their dreams through education, and CAA remembers his service each year.

This year, Kelsey’s story about the acts of kindness she performed for her grandfather in the midst of his time of loss, touched us the most. She took postcards from places that he had visited with his late wife, filled them out, and sent them to him in the mail. This simple act provided some special memories for both Kelsey and her grandfather. Her story was well written and painted a beautiful picture of the difference she made in both their lives.

In high school, Kelsey was involved in a variety of activities. She was the captain of color guard during her junior and senior years. Through that, she was able to mentor middle school students in the color guard program as well. Kelsey was also the Vice President of her school’s amateur radio club and took part in the Science Olympiad. Kelsey will continue her education at Bradley University as a marketing major. It was through some of the CAA resources that she came to learn about her chosen career, Market Research Analyst. She hopes that her college education will help her to reach this career goal.
