Buckingham Place Wins Coveted TripAdvisor Certificate Of Excellence 2012

Hot on the heels of larger and longer established Sri Lankan hotels and industry brands, at just two seasons old 'Buckingham Place' wins the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2012.

"I believe this humbling and very early TripAdvisor success bear's testament to good old fashioned, genuine hospitality plus, a dogged determination to get it right for our guests" says British born hotelier Nick Buckingham. "Developing a warm, professional hotel/guest relationship by being thoughtful and caring is admittedly easier at boutique size but, in any hotels drive for heads on pillows these values can be easily overshadowed by perceptions that success is all about latest furnishings and plasma screens in bathrooms!'

Buckingham Place offers something perhaps out of the ordinary; a modern hotel with a personality and a heartbeat and a hotel with core values as its foundation.

"For little over 18 months we've set out to differentiate who we are and what we do and repeatedly guests tell us to stay on our path. Without reinventing the wheel the team implements everything it can to ensure the hotel cares for and is constantly thinking about its guests - not as 'room night revenue' but foremost as 'people on their dream holiday'.

Good news for Sri Lanka is that global benchmarks are now being matched in tourism - bringing the island's industry closer to its goals of visitor numbers, product standard and jobs created. But, whilst the blue chips represent volume there will always be a strong demand for standard bearers in niche markets, including the boutique and low budget sectors. Look no further than TripAdvisor for more evidence of this.

The Buckingham Place byline 'Believe in Sri Lanka' succinctly reflects and sums up the positive and refreshing outlook of this hotel team and its owner.

Twelve newly built bedrooms and suites overlook Rekawa's tranquil lagoon near Tangalle while the meandering and spectacular Rekawa beach is 2 minutes walk from the hotel gates. Whether staying at Buckingham Place for abundant tropical birdlife, verdant scenery, nesting turtles or, a real village experience; you'll return to the sanctuary of a great room and, a truly hospitable team.

From $215 includes accommodation and breakfast for 2 and VAT/all taxes; but remember, it's not all about good rates - it's about core values, seeing Sri Lanka close up and.... genuine hospitality.

Company History.
During June 2002, subsequent to several enjoyable holidays in Sri Lanka, Nick Buckingham formed a BOI/Tourist Board approved company to construct and operate Buckingham Place - a semi-retirement project. Breaking ground the following year, construction continued until the Tsunami of 2004 after which Nick set up and ran a Trust to rehabilitate and equip the local hospital - a $1.2m project.

With the hospital project complete, hotel construction restarted in 2008 - leading up to Buckingham Place opening its gates on 1st October 2010.

Focused on directing the hotel, Nick has commenced work on extra facilities or Phase 2 as he calls it "now we know what our guests want and expect from us and, future capacity can be more easily predicted"
