Breakout Author Lois Gerber Has Written Her First Fiction Novel "Runway Girl: A Nurses Story".

Lois Gerber's new book, Runaway Girl: A Nurse's Story will appeal to all readers but especially those interested in history, nurses, and youth interested in nursing as a career.

The novel, set in the mid-1920s in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the story of Connie Sinclair, a 15 year-old girl who runs away from home and enrolls in a nurses’ training program using a false name to keep her father from finding her. A hospital fire and other incidents challenge Connie, but, with the help of her roommate and a caring nursing instructor, she successfully meets the program’s exacting expectations. The book has been well researched, using published texts from the time period, and includes typical nursing student duties and the common illnesses and treatments of the era. It’s been published by Taylor and Seale. Websites for purchase are Amazon.com: lois gerber.runaway, www.taylorandseale.com, or www.taylorandsealeeducation.com. A paperback version can be ordered through Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, or independent book stores.

One reviewer writes “Spoke to what nursing is and the altruistic values nurses hold toward humanity. Anyone interested in a nursing career needs to read the book.”

A colorful snapshot of nursing life in the 1920s. Connie,…falls into nursing, only to discover that nursing is her true calling. Filled with historical detail that brings the old days of nursing to life, the story reveals that … the enduring spirit of nursing has remained constant. I rooted for Connie through her trials and triumphs, and experienced her fears, her pride, and her happiness as she doggedly moved forward to become a nurse, all while keeping a deep personal secret. Connie Sinclair's journey is … a glimpse into the past and a symbol of the timeless, collective nurse experience.
