BERKELEY, Calif. -- Dennis Yu, CEO of BlitzLocal, is among the online industry experts exploring the state of online consumer privacy today at a roundtable series sponsored by the Federal Trade Commission.
Participants in the day-long event will include privacy experts, consumer advocates and academics. Representatives of Facebook, LinkedIn, EPIC, the American Civil Liberties Union and Living Social are expected at the day-long roundtable, held at the University of Californa-Berkeley School of Law.
This is the second of three roundtables to determine the best way to protect online consumer privacy in the face of such trends as cloud computing, social networking, mobile marketing, online behavioral advertising and the use of consumer information by retailers, third-party applications and data brokers.
Panelists will discuss whether existing laws or self-policing practicies are adequate to protect consumers in light of of these rapidly evolving technologies.
"Market forces will squeeze out most of the problems in this area," Yu said. "But consumers will still need help in understanding how their privacy is affected when they participate in social networks."
Yu is co-founder and CEO of BlitzLocal.com, which provides cutting-edge local search solutions to local, regional, national and international enterprises. He has guided development of an ad-serving platform that integrates pay-per-click (PPC), search optimization, mail, and Facebook advertising campaigns to online and offline conversions via phone, lead generation, online ordering, and coupon redemption.
Yu, a veteran of web analytics and PPC, has helped Yahoo!, American Airlines, J.C. Penney and others maximize online leads and revenue.
