BARBARA HARSH'S "BLIND PLANET" PRESENTS NEW VISION OF DYSTOPIAN FICTION
This book is certainly deserving of critical acclaim. I am a fan of dystopian fiction including works as diverse as P.D. James' "Children of Men," Stephen King's "The Stand", Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend," and Ray Bradbury's classic "Fahrenheit 451." The book would qualify as a "novella," meaning that it is longer than a short story and shorter than a standard novel length. While more common in Europe, there are only a few famous instances of novellas in American literature (e.g., Herman Melville's "Bartleby the Scrivener" and Truman Capote's "Breakfast at Tiffany's"). At a time when 400 page blockbusters abound, Dr. Harsh's writing is a very simple clear, crisp and rich prose style that borders, in certain passages, on being poetry. The cover art is stunning and attention-grabbing. It certainly got my attention.
