Blind Athletes Traveling to Houston to Compete in Triathlon
Online, October 9, 2009 (Newswire.com) - The 17th Annual AMICA Try Andy's triathlon, one of the oldest triathlons in Houston, will be taking place in Sugar Land on Sunday, October 18. Over 800 people, from ages 7 to 75, will be participating in this event. However, for the first time, four blind athletes, sponsored by the C Different Foundation (www.cdifferent.org) will be swimming, biking and running along with everyone else at this race.
These four visually impaired athletes will be coming to Houston from across the U.S. to compete. They will be guided throughout the race by local triathletes, tethered together while swimming & running and riding tandem bikes during the cycling section. Their travel expenses are covered by the C Different Foundation and the Acumen Contracting Group, a Houston-based roofing and general contracting company.
The C Different athletes competing in the race are:
** Aaron Scheidies of Seattle, WA, guided by Matt Miller, a Houston resident, founder of the C Different Foundation and CEO of Acumen Contracting Group
** Joe Pascall of Austin, TX, athletic director for the Texas School of the Blind, guided by Luis Canales, a Houston resident and employee of Acumen Contracting Group
** Dave Bigoney of Tallahassee, FL, guided by Brett Cole of Houston
** Annie Young of Minneapolis, MN, guided by Desiree Ficker of Austin
