BlackDoctor.org Wins 2016 American Business Award for Marketing Health Campaign of the Year

"My Story" Campaign Earns BlackDoctor.org Bronze Stevie® Award

BlackDoctor.org (BDO), the world’s largest and most comprehensive online health resource specifically targeted to African Americans, was named the winner of a Bronze Stevie® Award in the Marketing Health Campaign of the Year in Disease Education & Awareness category for the 14th Annual American Business Awards. BDO’s “My Story” campaign was recognized by the Stevie Award committee for successfully raising health awareness through compelling storytelling.

BlackDoctor.org launched the “My Story” series to bring healthcare down to a personal and trusting level. The series features real stories of health triumphs written by and about BDO readers, who are managing various forms of diseases and working towards living a healthier lifestyle. BDO helped raise awareness across many different epidemics in the African American community through the “My Story” campaign. From obesity, breast cancer to HIV/AIDS, there aren’t any topics off limits.

“Personal stories touch readers in an intimate way and our My Story series has proven that online engagement on health content is not only possible, but therapeutic. Readers are able to place a face to an often taboo topic of health, that not only provides hope, but real life solutions,” said Sandria Washington, BlackDoctor.org Executive Editor.

BlackDoctor.org far exceeds top health sites in engagement. BDO currently has over 312k people talking about various health topics on its Facebook page alone, which has over 1.2 million followers.

The American Business Awards are the world's premier business awards. Nicknamed the Stevies, they were created in 2002 to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working professionals worldwide. In short order the Stevie has become one of the world's most coveted prizes. More than 3,400 nominations were submitted this year for consideration.

"The judges were extremely impressed with the quality of entries we received this year. The competition was intense and every organization that has won should be proud," said Michael Gallagher, president and founder of the Stevie Awards.

Reggie Ware, CEO of BlackDoctor.org shared, “BlackDoctor.org is always committed to bringing real stories, health education and awareness to the African American community. We are proud that our commitment was recognized and honored by this year’s Stevie Awards.”

The Gold, Silver, Bronze and Grand Stevie Awards will be presented to winners at The 14th Annual American Business Awards banquet on Monday, June 20 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
