BITA Standards Council Merges With Global Blockchain Business Council to Launch Initiative Using Blockchain Technology to Improve Global Supply Chains
GENEVA, July 17, 2023 (Newswire.com) - BITA Standards Council (BITA), a nonprofit open-source standards organization for blockchain/Web3-enabled global commerce, is merging with Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), the largest leading industry association for the blockchain technology and digital assets community.
BITA will become an initiative of GBBC and BITA members will become members of GBBC. The combined association will have more than 500 institutional members and 231 Ambassadors across 109 jurisdictions and disciplines.
Originally established in 2017 as the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BITA), BITA is focused on the creation of open-source and royalty-free data standards in the global commerce (supply chain) space and consists of top global companies with a common vision to define and grow open-source supply chain global standards. Now as a part of GBBC, BITA will continue to collaborate with other like-minded entities and will drive the global effort to map, produce, publish, and adopt those standards.
Key areas of focus include Multi-Modal Shipment/Inventory Tracking and Tracing (STT), and the core of this work revolves around shipment location, party and tracking. Completing this end-to-end establishes a pathway to streamline subsequent work with this technology and in global commerce. Future potential complementary areas include distributed identity, customs clearance, and Internet of Things (IoT) metadata.
Sandra Ro, CEO, GBBC, says, "GBBC welcomes BITA and its esteemed leadership team to our 'global village of leaders, doers, and changemakers.' This merger underscores GBBC's continued commitment to convening different communities together to solve some of the biggest business challenges of today."
Dale Chrystie, Chairman of BITA and Fellow at FedEx, shares, "Global commerce will be transformed by blockchain, Web3 and emerging technologies, and the development and adoption of open-source and royalty-free standards and interoperability is not only critical to success but is also foundational. We believe this will take a pro-competitive global village, a coopetition, to scale blockchain and Web3 technology for all."
"This significant milestone is underpinned by a shared vision of creating a more secure, equitable, and inclusive environment to accelerate the development of standards that benefit businesses and consumers around the world," said David Treat, Chair of GBBC and Senior Managing Director at Accenture. "With combining scale and expertise of these two entities, we will help to shape a future for Web3 and blockchain that will enable businesses to collaborate more effectively and efficiently across the global supply chain."
Furthermore, BITA's existing Board of Directors will become the BITA Leadership Team, driving strategy in cooperation with GBBC's leadership team.
BITA's Leadership Team will be comprised of:
- Dale Chrystie, Business Fellow and Blockchain Strategist, FedEx
- Dr. Veneetia Johnson, Director, TechOps Technology and Innovation Engineering, Delta Air Lines
- Greg Brown, Vice President - Technology Strategy and R&D, UPS
- Bob Hitt, Industry Advisor, Transportation & Logistics, Salesforce
- Paul Rapino, Chief Growth Officer, GBBC
