Leaders and top performers from Baltimore Events recently attended an enriching conference. The firm's director of operations detailed the event and how he gets the most out of such industry gatherings.

A hand-selected contingent of individuals from Baltimore Events accompanied the firm’s leaders to a national conference. The event provided attendees with the opportunity to hear inspirational talks on topics such as leadership, business development, and recruiting. As Matt, the company’s director of operations, explained, “It was a great chance for the team to bond. We sent only our best people who have earned their spots at this conference because of their hard work.”

The conference accommodations were enviable by any standard. “There were free meals provided as well as luxurious rooms for each member of the team,” added the director. “The hotel has amenities that include an indoor pool, a full-service spa, and a well-equipped gym. It was a great weekend for all involved and we always learn so much when we venture out to these types of events.”

Industry functions offer significant benefits, but they can also be hectic and overwhelming. “I’ve picked up some good strategies over the years for making the most of conferences,” stated the director. “I always remind my team of a few of these tips before we attend such gatherings, and I think Baltimore Events has really benefitted from them.”

Matt advises his people to distill every inspiring speech they hear at a conference to one key lesson. “There can be a lot of different elements in a presentation, whether it’s due to visual aids or simply the amount of information being communicated,” he added. “I ask that our associates try to take one specific tip that they can use at work from every talk they find inspiring.”

Strategizing with business cards is another good tactic to bring into a conference setting. As Matt explained, “To avoid collecting business cards haphazardly, I have my associates separate them into two distinct groups: one for the people they plan to follow up with for a specific need, and another for those they want to add to their address books without any concrete follow-up plans. This helps them make sense of the connections they made.”
